Berlin, Germany, December 11, 2024 – The creator of BEASTARS Paru Itagaki has done it again. In her new work Sanda, she paints an unusual vision of the future, set somewhere between Nightmare Before Christmas and Children of Men. As in BEASTARS, she uses her quirky characters and dialog to tell a thrilling and action-packed coming-of-age story. The 1st volume is already available. Volume 2 is scheduled on January 10th.
Synopsis
In 2080, the proportion of children in Japan’s population will be just 0.1%. The youngest members of this shrinking society are guarded like treasures. Fourteen-year-old Kazushige Sanda leads a sheltered life – at least until his classmate Shiori Fuyumura asks him to admit one thing: That he is Santa Claus reborn. He should use his superpowers to help her find the missing Ichie Ono, Shiori Fuyumura’s best friend. All he has to do is put on a red sweater to transform into his true form. Kazushige initially thinks it’s a bad joke, until Shiori Fuyumura pulls out a knife. Because blood also dyes clothes red …
About Sanda
Published in Japan from July 2021 to July 2024 in the Weekly Shonen Champion magazine from Akira Shoten, Sanda has been completed in 16 volumes. After the resounding success of BEASTARS, Paru Itagaki has put her talents to creating a new, highly inventive and unapologetic series with action-packed fights, madness, wacky characters and an unfathomable mystery. An anime has been announced, produced by Science SARU.
