Gambitious, the first video game publisher to create its own finance platform for individual investors, knows how to deliver a profit. In its first year of publishing, every Gambitious game title signed has been successfully funded and released, with four of its first six titles returning a profit for its investor network within the first month of sales.
Founded by veterans from the independent publishing business, and utilizing an evolving set of crowd financing tools to get more great indie games green lighted and funded, Gambitious has been operating out of Amsterdam and Austin, TX since 2012, and has been producing and publishing the games it finances since late 2014.
“In between traditional publishing and the wild west of crowd funding stands Gambitious,” said Gambitious CEO and Co-Founder Paul Hanraets. “At Gambitious, we only accept projects that we have vetted and signed as a publisher. We lead project financing and raise money from our growing investor network via our funding portal, offering investors the opportunity to invest right alongside the publisher, at the same terms as we do, ensuring that everyone involved has a fair and positive experience.”
Gambitious is currently only accepting accredited investors from the US and qualified investors from the EU, while continuing to explore options to accept non-accredited investors from the US as the JOBS Act Title III regulatory guidelines become clearer. “While various types of crowdfunding game sites keep popping up claiming to be the first to do this or that, we’ve been operating in this space – merging publishing and financing -for three years,” said Gambitious Co-founder, Mike Wilson. “We got into this business not for a gold rush, but rather the opposite – to carefully protect and enhance the massive opportunity that the new funding models present for independent developers, rather than see it squandered by over-promising and under-delivering on projects, especially in cases where people are investing significant amounts of their money hoping for a return.”
Please note: At this year’s PAX South, three more indie titles are debuting, including Crush Your Enemies by Vile Monarch, Hard Reset Redux by Flying Wild Hog, and Zombie Night Terror by No Clip. You can find the announcement for these games here.
