World 1-1 Documentary World Premiere Release on Steam Store Tuesday 5/19
– ‘The Story of How the Video Game Industry Came to Life’ Among First-Ever Movie Titles Released via Steam –
Devolver Digital Films has that announced another of its independent feature movies, World 1-1, releases worldwide on the Steam Store on Tuesday May 19th at 9 a.m. PST. The documentary, produced by Daryl Rodriguez and Jeanette Garcia, chronicles the emergence of global video game industry, from the personalities of the earliest Atari pioneers to the lucky deals and unfortunate mistakes that almost destroyed the entire industry as quickly as it began. World 1-1 will launch on the Steam Store at a sale price of $5.39 for one week, offering 33% off its regular price of $7.99 (£5.59, 7,99€). The 131-minute documentary is among the first movie titles to be released on the global gaming platform, which now boasts than 125 million active users worldwide.
Rodriguez and Garcia say their film is “the first in a documentary series on the full history of video games.” The film, which fan-funded through a Kickstarter campaign in 2013, explores this early history through interviews, archives and reflections by game industry legends: Nolan Bushnell, co-founder of Atari; David Crane, co-founder of Activision; Warren Robinett, creatore of Adventure, one of the world’s first RPG’s; Dona Bailey, co-creator of Centipede, one of the first games to attract a large female audience; and many more of the original engineers, developers, businesspeople and industry personalities whose work directly kicked off the global rise of gaming.
World 1-1 deftly investigates the highs and lows of the intense birth of a mega-industry that continues to rise today. The film’s theatrical premiere on October 24th, 2014 launched a run of expo-related screenings continuing through Spring 2015; it is already enjoying rave reviews from fans and critics for its high-quality examination of what would become a beloved global phenomenon.
