At last week’s Gamescom, InnoGames held the largest game jam in trade show history – nearly 200 jammers from 27 nations came together to develop playable games during 48 straight hours – in the Cologne Congress Center. Participants flying in from countries such as Australia, Kenya and the Philippines were given the theme of “masks” to inspire creations on a variety of devices. In the end, 39 games were submitted by the group, and a 15-member jury voted on which ones would take the valuable prizes: loads of hardware provided by Intel, and the chance to showcase the winning titles on the Gamescom show floor. All developed games can be played on www.igjam.eu now!
InnoGames CEO Hendrik Klindworth was quoted on the topic, saying “It’s inspiring to see so many game enthusiasts from such diverse backgrounds work together on their passion, and come up with something truly impressive and unique. The teams did a fantastic job and I’m absolutely awed with the quality of the developed games made in 48 short hours. I’d like to give a big thanks to the BIU and Intel, who helped us implement the first large scale game jam at gamescom.”
Federal Association of Interactive Entertainment Software (BIU) CEO Dr. Maximilian Schenk explained the event’s importance: “The game jam was a great asset to have at gamescom this year, because for the first time, it put the focus on the exceptional talent and dedication behind the titles that we see in the industry. I am therefore very pleased to establish this event in coming years together with InnoGames as a fixed program at Gamescom.”
The event was supported by Intel Corporation and the BIU.
